MHS Visited and Recognized by State Superintendent
State Superintendent Mike Flanagan's took some time out of his busy schedule to visit Milford High School and Huron Valley Schools. He spent about and hour at MHS. He visited our ASL students performance of the the National Anthem and Imagine by John Lennon. He also spent time with Superintendent Baker and also some time speaking to our students.
Last night, Mr. Flanagan tweeted; "Folks who think public schools aren't as good as they used to be...visit the impressive Huron Valley Schools as I did today!"

Milford High School Announces Valedictorian and Salutatorian
Congratulations to Dillon Kesto and Michael Palazzolo who have been selected as the Class of 2014 Valedictorians. Rachel Barrett as selected as the classes Salutatorian. Milford High School is proud of all of you and your accomplishments.

ACT/MME Scores
Milford High School performed better than the State Average in all 4 areas of the ACT test. The Average ACT score for the 347 students tested was a 21.6. The state average was a 19.9 and the national average was a 20.9

AP Testing
One of the greatest accomplishment in the academic areas of Milford High School is in our AP Test Scores. We had an astounding 385 students taking at least one AP class. in 2013, Milford High School students took 594 AP Exams. 76% of Milford High School students received a 3 or higher on those AP tests. That is 9 percent above State Average and 15 percent above the National Average.

Oakland County Teacher of the Year Nomination
The Huron Valley Schools Board of Education recognized Ms. Shawn Durso for her nomination as Oakland County Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Durso will attend the Oakland County Teacher of the Year Awards Program recognition at Oakland Schools with their families and building principal on May 8, 2014.

Mrs. Gleason earns Prestigous Honor
Lori Gleason of Milford High School was recognized at the Board Of Education Meeting on Monday, May 5, 2014 for being named the Regional Woodie Flowers Award Recipient this year.
The Woodie Flowers Award celebrates effective communication in the art and science of engineering and design. Dr. William Murphy founded this prestigious award in 1996 to recognize mentors who lead, inspire, and empower using excellent communication skills.

Milford DECA Sets School Record at State Finals

HOT Robotics Team continues Traditions of Excellence
The Hot Robotics team continue to excel as one of the best robotics team in the Nation. Season Highlights included winning the the Howell District FIRST Robotics Event, state finalists (top 2), and well as International Semi-Finalists (Final Four).

Milford Miracles Tradition Continues to help Local Families
The Spanish Club continued to make a gigantic impact on our HVS community. The MHS Spanish Club runs an annual Cutest Santa contest to help families in times of need during the holiday season. Milford High School was able to raise $3,900 dollars that was spent to help 15 families within the Huron Valley district during the Holiday Season.

Student Council Gives Back
A group of MHS students helped with a local charity event, Santa Shop. This event is hosted by Hospitality House of Walled Lake, a local food pantry. The event allows families in need to come and "shop" for gifts for the holidays. All items have been donated so there is no cost to the families. Our MHS students helped set up for the event, helped families shop, wrapped gifts and loaded cars. It was a great way for our MHS students to give back to the local community.

Caring Community Week
Milford High School students spent the week of November 11th celebrating Caring Community week. The focus was on the positive. What CAN we do to make a difference? A variety of activities planned by Leadership, the Caring Community Committee, and Peer Mentoring took place throughout the week to help promote a positive culture at Milford High. These activities included positive locker messages to every student, Veterans Day recognition, Free Hugs, and Wear Orange Day.

Gabby Brackrog All-State Honors
Gabby Brackrog, Senior at Milford High School, finishes her golf career as the most decorated golfer in school history. Gabby accolades include Division I All-State, Division 1 All- County, All-Area, KLAA All-Conference, School Record Holder, and Oakland County Champion (2013). Gabby will attend Florida Gulf Coast on a golf scholarship next Fall.

Milford Cross Country win 3rd straight STATE CHAMPIONSHIP
The Milford Boys Cross Country won their our 3rd consecutive and 5th overall State Championship in school history on Saturday. Brian Kettle and
The Milford girls also showed great grit in placing 9th overall.. This was their first Top Ten finish since 2006 and 19th overall in school history.

Three of Milford’s 2014 seniors have made their collegiate decisions and sign their National Letter of Intent to compete for their respective choices. Rachel Barrett, the daughter of Jennifer and Eric Barrett has chosen to attend and compete for the University of Michigan-Ann Arbor. Kevin Black, the son of Susan and Larry Black has chosen to attend and compete for the Grand Valley State University. Brian Kettle, son of Doreen and Darryl Kettle has chosen to attend and compete for Michigan State University.

The Milford Boys Basketball Team earned Team Academic All-State honors from the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan. This is the third time in four years that MHS has been Academic All-State.
Our team GPA was a combined 3.495 which was good enough for 10th in Class A (Top 10 are considered All- State). MHS was also the top team in the KLAA and Oakland County. This great award for a great group of young men involved in the MHS Basketball program who strive for excellence on and off the court. A well deserved honor for their efforts.

Two former Milford High School students qualified to participate in the 2014 Olympics. Karly Shorr (2013 Graduate) and Danny Davis qualified as Olympic snowboarders. The girls Swim and Dive team had a great season. The team had 4 State Qualifiers who all had an opportunity to compete at Eastern Michigan University. Our swimming state finalists were Breena Grass, Annabel Spencer, Lynn Hancsak, and Allie Crouse. MHS also had two qualifiers in diving in Sophie Beck and Megan Lakkides. All of these young ladies are underclassmen and will look to improve upon their performances next year.

James Lumsden, tuba, was accepted into the prestigious MSU Spartan Youth Wind Symphony and Honors Brass chamber ensemble.Milford has numerous representatives who were invited to perform in the Oakland University Honors Band: Chelsea Thibodeau (flute), Abby Cameron (clarinet), Kim Bottenberg (clarinet), Katherine Beaudoin (French horn), James Lumsden (tuba).
The Marching Band also saved its best performance for last at the State Championships. Click on the link for more details regarding their State Championship performance.

The MHS Theatre Company traveled to Saginaw Valley State University December 6-8 to perform and compete at the 2013 Michigan Theatre Festival and, once again, we came home with huge accolades, awards and money. 17 MHS students attended the event and in addition to attending a variety of performance and technical workshops and seeing student shows, many also competed in individual events. The results of the individual events are as follows: In MONOLOGUES - Alecia Morris and Megan Waxman = Excellent and Willow Collins = Superior; In SOLO MUSICAL THEATRE - Kryzia Garza = Excellent and Rachel Carreri and Kaitlyn Weickel = Superior; In DUET MUSICAL THEATRE - Kryzia Garza/Sarah Reed = Excellent, Rachel Carreri/Connor Keliikui = Superior and Kaitlyn Weickel/Willow Collins = Superior; and in SOLO DANCE - Linnea Kynast = Excellent.
We also had 6 seniors compete/perform for a panel of 30+ university professors & industry professionals and they were award over $160,000 in scholarship offers from 8 universities! Congratulations to Ashley Reed, Rachel Carreri, Connor Keliikuli, Kaitlyn Weickel, Alecia Morris and Sarah Reed. All the world is their stage and they have proven they are players! The festival also awards 10 seniors a special Thespian Scholarship award and MHS had two winners this year (out of the 63 seniors that competed). Congratulations to Kaitlyn Weickel and Sarah Reed for demonstrating excellence in not only performance/art but also in academics.

Milford High School had two award winners in the Scholastic Art Competition. Zane Kemper won the Silver Key for Multi- Medium Art while Morgan Bullard won the Gold Key Portfolio. Morgan's portfolio will be entered into the National contest and will also be submitted to the pretigious Center of Creative Studies (CCS)

The National Art Honors Society is in it's first year at MHS and has over 20 members. MHS Art Students continually come up with great ideas and ways to showcase their art.
